Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – Tommy Bolte scored a game-high 42 points to lead Concord (12-11, 8-9 MEC) to a 76-70 win over Shepherd University (14-9, 10-7 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at Concord on Thursday night.
Bolte hit on 12-of-26 field goals with a 7-of-13 effort from three-point range. He sank 11-of-12 free throws.
Senior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while junior forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) added 20 points and seven boards to pace the Rams.
Freshman guard Cam Stephens (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) had nine points and four assists, while sophomore guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) added eight points and five assists.
Trey Brisco added 11 points for the Mountain Lions.
The Rams had a 34-32 lead at the break as Carr (12) and Burgess (10) combined for 22 first-half points.
Concord had a 70-62 lead after Brisco drained a pair of free throws with 50 seconds remaining. The Rams proceeded on an 8-2 run to get to within two points at 72-70 after a three-pointer by Lang with 18 seconds left, but Bolte hit 4-of-4 foul shots in the final seconds to seal the victory.
Shepherd connected on 45.8 percent (27-59) from the floor with a 30 percent (9-30) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 63.6 percent (7-11) of their free throws.
Concord shot 40 percent (22-55) from the floor with a 40.6 percent effort (13-32) from three-point range. The Mountain Lions shot 82.6 percent (19-23) from the charity stripe.
Shepherd had a 36-33 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 10 turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to UVa-Wise for a 4 p.m. contest.
