Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – Senior guard
Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a game-high 35 points to lead Shepherd University (11-12, 7-10 MEC) to a 76-72 overtime win over Concord (11-11, 7-10 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Concord on Thursday.
Arden connected on 13-of-24 field goals with a 3-of-5 effort from three-point range. She was 6-of-7 from the foul line. She also added an assist and three rebounds.
Freshman forward
Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) posted her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Junior guard
Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) added eight points and eight rebounds, while junior guard
Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) had seven points and five rebounds.
Madison May scored 21 points to lead the Mountain Lions. Riley Fitzwater added 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Danielle Catron and Andreanna Poole each tossed in 12 points.
Shepherd closed the first half on a 14-2 run and took a 29-28 lead into the break.
The game featured 11 ties and 11 lead changes. After Madison May completed a three-point play to give Concord a 64-62 lead with 24 seconds to go, Arden hit a layup with 13 seconds left in regulation to force the extra session.
Shepherd outscored Concord 12-8 in overtime to earn the win. Senior guard
Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) scored all of her five points in the overtime period to lead the Rams.
Shepherd shot 36.5 percent (27-74) from the floor with a 29.4 percent effort (5-17) from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 73.9 percent (17-23) of their free throws.
Concord hit on 35.3 percent (24-68) from the floor with a 5.6 percent (1-18) performance from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions connected on 85.2 percent (23-27) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 51-44 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to UVa-Wise for a 2 p.m. contest.
