Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Paris McLeod scored a game-high 38 points to lead fifth-ranked Glenville State (28-1) to a 107-76 win over Shepherd University (15-15) in quarterfinal action of MEC Women's Basketball Tournament at the Charleston Civic Center on Thursday night.
Senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) led the Rams with 25 points. She connected on 10-of-22 field goals with a 1-of-6 effort from three-point range. She was 4-of-5 from the line. She added four rebounds and a game-high five assists.
Freshman forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) posted her sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Junior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) added eight points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Junior forward Liz Moormann (New Market, Md./Oakdale) tossed in eight points, while senior guard Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) added seven points and six boards.
Tayana Stewart scored 16 points and Abby Stoller added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Pioneers.
Glenville State held a 49-47 lead at the break. The Pioneers outscored Shepherd 30-18 in the third period to take control of the contest.
Shepherd shot 47.1 percent (32-68) from the floor with an 18.8 percent effort (3-16) from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 81.8 percent (9-11) of their free throws.
Glenville State hit on 45.1 percent (37-82) from the floor with a 35.1 percent (13-37) performance from beyond the arc. The Pioneers connected on 71.4 percent (20-28) of their free throws.
Glenville State and Shepherd each had 43 rebounds. The Rams forced eight turnovers and committed 26.
Glenville State advances to the tournament semifinals on Saturday at noon against the winner of tonight's West Liberty-Fairmont State game.
Notes: Arden ended her career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,995 points … Arden's 59 three-pointers this season tie the Shepherd single-season record shared by Katie Biggs in 2011-12 … her 152 career three-pointers rank her second on the Shepherd all-time list, while her 393 career assists rank her fourth … Arden scored 20 points or more in 20 games this season.
