Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Tops Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Sophomore attacker/midfielder Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) scored seven goals, while sophomore midfielder Elishia Davis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) added five to lead Shepherd (4-2) to a 16-8 win over Coker (1-5) in women's lacrosse action at Coker on Friday.

Funke added four draw controls and a caused turnover, while Davis had six draw controls, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Funke's seven goals tie a career-high effort, while Davis established a new career high with her five-goal performance.

Senior midfielder Sarah Wendt (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) added two goals and an assist, while freshman attacker Regan Brown (Reisterstown, Md./Manchester Valley) had a goal and a pair of assists. Sophomore attacker Emily Brown (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) recorded a goal. Wendt (101) recorded three draw controls to go over 100 for her career.

Faith Kent had three goals and a pair of assists to lead the Cobras. Haley McCusker added three goals, while Bailey O'Brien had two.

Shepherd had an 8-2 lead at halftime as Funke had three first-half tallies.

Shepherd had a 34-23 edge in shots, while Coker had a 20-17 advantage in ground balls and a 14-13 edge in draw controls. Shepherd was 19-of-26 in clears, while Coker was 18-of-21.

Junior goalkeeper Casey Hickman (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) had 12 saves for the Rams, while Cassie Williams recorded 12 saves for the Cobras.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Nyack for a 3:30 p.m. match.
