HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Shepherd University split tennis action with Illinois Wesleyan late Friday night at Hilton Head. The Shepherd men (6-5) gained a 7-2 triumph, while the Shepherd women (3-11) dropped a 5-4 decision.
Senior Austin Thomas (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six singles and teamed with senior Lewis Charette (Atlanta, Ga./Pike County) for an 8-0 victory at number three doubles to lead the Shepherd men.
The Shepherd women got singles wins from junior Zoie O'Neal (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Spring), junior Anna Bock (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) and sophomore Zoe Nicewander (Bluefield, W.Va./Bluefield). Bock also teamed with junior Nicolette Bruley (Centreville, Va./Westfield). for a win at number two doubles.
The Shepherd men return to action on March 25 when they host UVa-Wise for an 11 a.m. match. The women return to action on March 31 when they host Virginia State for an 11 a.m. match.
