SALEM, Va. – Shepherd University (5-3) won a pair of games in softball action at the Salem Tournament.on Friday. Shepherd gained a 9-1 win in five innings against East Stroudsburg (4-7) and added a 5-4 win in eight inniings over Indiana (Pa.) in a later game.

East Stroudsburg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Kaylee Hazewski reached on an error and later scored on a single by Mary Wallick.

Shepherd took a 2-1 lead in the second as junior outfielder Morgan Cox (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) reached on an error and scored on a two-run blast off the bat of freshman second baseman Leann Brown (Hume, Va./Fauquier).

The Rams plated seven runs on seven hits in the fifth to gain the early win via the eight-run rule. Senior pitcher Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run/Francis Marion) hit a two-run double, while junior catcher Rachel Taylor (Marshall, Va./Fauquier) added an RBI-double and Cox had an RBI-single to highlight the rally.

Cox and Brown each had a pair of hits to lead the Rams.

Wallick went 2-for-3 to pace the Warriors.

Munda (5.0 IP,  4 H, 1 UER,  8 K, 1 BB) (2-1) gained the win for the Rams.  Angelica Dark (4.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER,  2 K, 1 BB) (3-4) took the loss for the Warriors.

No information was available on the later game against Indiana (Pa.).

The Rams return to tourney action on Saturday when they face Edinboro at 10 a.m. and Gannon at noon.
