Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore attacker/midfielder Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) scored an unassisted goal with 26 seconds left in regulation to lift Shepherd (7-5, 3-1 MEC) to a 12-11 win over Charleston (7-8, 1-3 MEC) in MEC women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Friday.
Senior midfielder Sarah Wendt (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) led the Rams with five goals, while Funke added three goals and an assist. Freshman attacker Regan Brown (Reisterstown, Md./Manchester Valley) contributed a goal and two assists and freshman attacker Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) had a goal and an assist.
Sophomore attacker Jordan Sauro (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Shippensburg) and sophomore midfielder Elishia Davis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) each netted a goal.
Emma Renda scored five goals for Charleston to tie Wendt for game-high honors. Arianna Jones and Brianna Rock each added a pair of goals.
Charleston had a 7-3 lead at the break as Jones (2) and Rock (2) accounted for four first-half scores.
Wendt tallied three consecutive goals midway through the second half to give the Rams an 11-9 lead with 7:58 remaining.
Charleston countered with a pair of free-position goals by Renda to tie the game at 11-all and set the stage for Funke's game-winner.
Shepherd had a 35-28 advantage in shots, while Charleston had a 14-11 edge in draw controls. The Rams had a 27-23 advantage in ground balls. Shepherd was 26-of-31 in clears, while Charleston was 24-of-28.
Senior goalkeeper Casey Hickman (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) recorded 12 saves for the Rams, while Kyra Tye posted 18 saves for the Golden Eagles. Hickman (314) became the program's all-time saves leader, surpassing the old mark of 309 set by Lily Schmulowitz (2012-15).
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host UVa-Wise for a noon contest in the regular season finale.
