CHESTERLAND, Ohio – Shepherd University (27-13, 21-5 MEC) split with Notre Dame College (17-26, 14-12 MEC) in MEC baseball action at Notre Dame on Saturday. The Rams earned a 13-12 win in game one, while Notre Dame gained a 6-5 victory in the nightcap.

Shepherd got a two-run homer from sophomore first baseman Christian Hamel (Pasadena, Md./IMG Academy) and solo homers from junior outfielder Nick Atkinson (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park/VCU) and junior outfielder Justin Smith (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg/Hagerstown CC) en route to the game one win.

Hamel went 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored to lead the Rams. Senior third baseman Chase Hoffman (Middletown, Md./Middletown) added a 2-for-4 effort and drove in four runs.

Lukas Thompson went 3-for-4 for the Falcons.

Junior starter Ryan Potts (Owings, Md./Northern) (5.1 IP, 11 H, 6 ER, 2 K, 4 BB) (8-1) gained the win for the Rams. Sophomore reliever Mitchell Johnson (Shady Side, Md./Southern) (0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 K, 0 BB) earned the save. James Holle (1.2 IP, 9 H, 10 R, 5 ER, 1 K, 3 BB) (1-2) took the loss for the Falcons.

Austin Barnhart singled home Bret Davis in the bottom of the seventh to give Notre Dame a 6-5 win in the nightcap.

Junior first baseman Eddie Nottingham (Windsor Mill, Md./Mt. St. Joseph's) and Atkinson led the Rams with a pair of hits. Nottingham also drove in a pair of runs.

Josh Armbruster ((7.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 K, 7 BB) (5-4) gained the win for the Falcons. Johnson (1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (3-2) took the loss for the Rams.

The two teams return to action on Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Notre Dame.
