Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Senior pitcher Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run/Francis Marion) tossed a complete game two-hitter to lead Shepherd University a 4-1 win over Chowan (31-16) in the early game at the Atlantic 1 Region Softball Tournament at Lawrence Field on Friday. The Rams (34-20) were eliminated from regional play when they dropped a 1-0 decision to Lock Haven (38-13) in the later contest.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Chowan. Junior outfielder Morgan Cox (Halifax, Pa./Halifax) reached on a walk and later scored from third just before senior catcher Molly Staley (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) was caught attempting to steal second.
The Rams increased their lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the fifth. Munda and junior outfielder Kaitlyn Konopka (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) reached on back-to-back singles and Cox followed with a two-run triple.
Munda belted a solo blast to right in the seventh to give the Rams a 4-0 advantage.
The Hawks plated a run in the bottom of the seventh as Miranda Glover reached on an error and later scored on an error.
Munda went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored to pace the Rams.
Munda (7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 7 K, 2 BB) (10-7) gained the win for the Rams. Shannon Buchanan (7.0 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 4 K, 4 BB) (16-8) took the loss for Hawks.
Lock Haven scored the game's only run in the fourth inning in the later game. Bryann Hilty doubled and later scored on a single off the bat of Cassie Querry.
Junior pitcher Lori Sturgill (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 K, 4 BB) (14-9) took the loss for the Rams. Bekah Slattery (7.0 IP, 2 H, 5 K, 1 BB) (20-6) gained the win for the Lady Eagles.
Lock Haven will take on West Chester in the championship round tomorrow.
