SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman quarterback
Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) completed 24-of-36 passes for 364 yards and four touchdowns to lead Shepherd (3-1, 3-1 MEC) to a 61-21 win over Concord (1-4, 1-4 MEC) in MEC football action on Homecoming at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
Freshman running back
Zyan Sturdivant (North Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie County) scored on a one-yard plunge with 9:56 left in the first quarter to give the Rams a 6-0 lead. The extra point attempt was unsuccessful.
Shepherd took a 13-0 lead when junior running back
Deonte Glover (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/WVU) scored on a 33-yard scamper with 4:13 left in the first quarter. Sophomore kicker
Hayden August-Scriven (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) added the extra point.
Tywan Pearce ran 20 yards on a reverse for a score for the Mountain Lions with 2:40 left in the first quarter to cut the lead to 13-7.
Shepherd increased its lead to 20-7 when Sturdivant scored on a one-yard dive with 14:16 left in the second quarter.
Concord added a safety on an errant snap on a punt attempt with 11:35 left in the second quarter.
Bagent teamed with senior wide receiver
Ryan Feiss (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) on a 14-yard scoring pass to up the Shepherd lead to 27-9 with 7:04 left in the second quarter.
Kyle Akin teamed with Pearce on a 63-yard scoring pass with 2:20 left in the half to cut the lead to 27-16.
Concord added a 33-yard field goal from Luke Walls as time expired in the first half to cut the deficit to 27-19 at the break.
Glover scored on a four-yard run with 11:19 left in the third quarter to increase the lead to 34-19.
Bagent and Feiss collaborated on a 54-yard scoring pass with 8:54 left in the third quarter to up the Shepherd lead to 41-19.
Bagent teamed with senior wide receiver
Wanya Allen (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) on a 20-yard scoring strike with 4:08 left in the third quarter. Chaudlier Shepherd returned a blocked extra point 98 yards for the Mountain Lions as Shepherd took a 47-21 advantage.
Bagent fired a 65-yard scoring pass to Feiss with 14:12 left in the fourth quarter to give Shepherd a 54-21 lead.
Shepherd completed the scoring on a 30-yard touchdown run by freshman running back
Sam James (Baltimore, Md./Mt. St. Joseph's).
Akin completed 7-of-18 passes for 152 yards for the Mountain Lions.
Freshman running back
Zyan Sturdivant (North Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie County) had 19 carries for a game-high 86 yards for the Rams. Akin had nine carries for 47 yards to pace the Mountain Lions.
Feiss led the Shepherd receivers with 12 receptions for career highs of 211 yards and three scores. Pearce had four catches for 92 yards and a score for Concord.
Shepherd had 576 yards of total offense, while Concord totaled 286.
Sophomore defensive back
Ponce DeLeon (Greenbelt, Md./Montgomery Blair) recorded six tackles (four solos)to pace the Rams. Zach Malone recorded a game-high 14 tackles (eight solos) for the Mountain Lions.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Liberty for a noon contest.
