SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) scored on a one-yard quarterback sneak with 42 seconds remaining in the game to lift Shepherd (4-2, 2-1 PSAC East) to a 32-30 win over Shippensburg (1-5, 1-2 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
Shepherd took a 6-0 lead when senior running back Deonte Glover (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/WVU) raced 15 yards for a score with 9:53 left in the first quarter. The extra point attempt was blocked.
Shippensburg took a 7-6 lead when Brycen Mussina teamed with Charles Headen on a 37-yard scoring pass with 2:39 left in the first quarter.
The Rams took a 13-7 lead when sophomore running back Ty Hebron (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) scored on a four-yard run with 11:57 left in the second quarter. Junior kicker Hayden August-Scriven (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) added the extra point.
The Red Raiders took a 14-13 lead when Luke Durkin scored on a one-yard plunge with 6:14 left in the second quarter.
Shepherd retook the lead when Glover raced 81 yards down the sideline with 9:06 left in the third quarter to give the Rams a 20-14 advantage.
The Red Raiders answered back when Mussina teamed with Headen on a five-yard scoring pass with 6:03 left in the third quarter to take a 21-20 lead.
Glover scored his third touchdown of the day on a two-yard plunge with 8:45 left in the fourth quarter to give the Rams a 26-21 advantage. A two-point-conversion pass failed.
Mussina fired a 76-yard scoring strike to Winston Eubanks with 8:28 remaining to give Shippensburg a 27-26 lead. A two-point rushing try was unsuccessful.
David Shank connected on a 22-yard field goal with 3:03 left to increase the Shippensburg lead to 30-26.
Shepherd proceeded to drive 80 yards on eight plays to score the game-winner. Bagent completed 6-of-7 passes in the drive. His 18-yard completion to senior tight end DJ Cornish (Milford, Del./Lake Forest) gave the Rams a first-and goal from the one-yard line in the game's final minute.
Bagent completed 27-of-36 passes for 337 yards for the Rams. Mussina completed 27-of-36 passes for 405 yards for the Red Raiders
Glover rushed 18 times for 142 yards to pace the Rams. Durkin rushed 22 times for 72 yards for Shippensburg.
Senior wide receiver Dylan Brewer (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) had seven catches for 75 yards to pace the Shepherd receivers. David Balint had 10 catches for 100 yards and Eubanks added four grabs for 153 yards for the Red Raiders.
Shepherd had 510 yards of total offense, while Shippensburg had 445.
Junior linebacker Chrys Lane (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) had a team-high eight tackles to lead the Shepherd defense. Junior defensive lineman Juwan Addison (Richmond, Va./Monacan) added five stops, including four tackles-for-loss and three sacks. Terez Franklin and Trey Paul each had a game-high nine tackles for the Red Raiders.
The Rams return to action next Saturday when they host West Chester at noon for Hall of Fame Weekend.
Ronnie Brown had six kickoff returns for 105 yards.
