Shepherd Football Tops Seton Hill

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) completed 19-of-27 passes for 276 yards and four touchdowns, while senior running back Deonte Glover (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/WVU) rushed for 125 yards and three scores and added a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown to lead Shepherd (9-2, 6-1 PSAC East) to a 56-24 win over Seton Hill (2-8, 2-5 PSAC East) in football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Seton Hill took a 7-0 lead when Ryan Barabe tossed a five-yard scoring pass to Darnell Carney with 10:16 left in the first quarter.

Shepherd tied the game when senior running back Deonte Glover (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/WVU) scored on a two-yard plunge with 2:37 left in the first quarter.  Junior kicker Hayden August-Scriven (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) added the extra point.

Shepherd took a 14-7  lead when Bagent teamed with senior wide receiver Dylan Brewer (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) on a 31-yard scoring strike with 13:48 left in the second quarter.

Hunter Miller connected on a 43-yard field goal for the Griffins with 12:01 left in the second quarter to cut the lead to 14-10.

Glover scored on a two-yard run with 8:16 left in the second quarter to up the lead to 21-10.

Bagent fired a nine-yard scoring pass to junior wide receiver Rodney Dorsey (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) to give the Rams a 28-10 lead at the break.

Michael Valentino scored on a seven-yard run for Seton Hill with 11:41 left in the third quarter.

Bagent teamed with Brewer on a three-yard scoring pass with 8:26 left to give the Rams a 35-17 lead.

Glover scored on a three-yard run with 39 seconds left in the third quarter to give Shepherd a 42-17 advantage.

Bagent teamed with Brewer on a 32-yard scoring strike to up the lead to 49-17 with 13:45 left in the third quarter.

Barabe found John Mackell in the end zone for a 19-yard scoring pass with 8:26 left in the game

Glover took the ensuing kickoff 98 yards for a score with 8:15 left in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.

Barabe was 21-of-35 for 234 yards for the Griffins.

Logan Wiland rushed 20 times for 118 yards to lead the Griffins.

Brewer had seven catches for 124 yards to lead the Rams. Senior wide receiver Devin Phelps (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances/Bowie State) added five receptions for 89 yards.  Matthew Williams had five catches for yards for the Griffins.

Shepherd amassed 445 yards of total offense. Seton Hill had 330 total yards.

Junior defensive back Ponce DeLeon (Greenbelt, Md./Montgomery Blair) led the Shepherd defense with a nine stops (all solos). He added a tackle-for-loss (-1 yard) and an interception. Narrio Walks had a game-high 11 tackles (six solos) to pace the Griffins.

The Rams await word on seeding  for the NCAA II Playoffs. The pairings will be announced on Sunday at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com.

Notes: Glover ran for 100 yards or more for the fifth time this season … Glover (1,106) went over 1,000 yards for the season … Brewer had 100 receiving yards for the fifth time this season… Brewer (1,041) went over 1,000 receiving yards on the year … Shepherd improves to 6-1 in the all-time series with Seton Hill.
