Shepherd Men Downed by Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. –  MiyKah McIntosh scored 16 points to lead Mercyhurst (4-1, 2-0­)  to a 69-59 win over Shepherd University (3-3, 0-2) in PSAC men's basketball action at Mercyhurst on Sunday afternoon.

Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) had 16 points to lead the Rams and tie McIntosh for game-high scoring honors.

Junior guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) and freshman guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) each added 10 points for the Rams. McClain-Corley added a team-high six rebounds.

Joel Ufele added 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Lakers.

Mercyhurst had a 37-34 lead at the half.

Shepherd connected on 40 percent (20-50) from the floor with a 30 percent (6-20) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 68.4 percent (13-19) of their free throws.

Mercyhurst shot 45.8  percent (22-48) from the floor with a 53.3 percent effort (8-15) from three-point range. The Lakers shot 94.4 percent (17-18) from the charity stripe.
Mercyhurst had a 31-28 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced seven turnovers and committed eight.

The Rams return to action on Dec. 4 when they travel to Virginia Union  for a 7 p.m. game.

Notes: Thomas Lang connected on 7-of-8 free throws … his consecutive free throw streak ended at 33 dating back to last season … his 33 consecutive free throw streak was just four shy of the program record of 37 set by Chad Myers in 2004-05.
