SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University vice president for athletics Chauncey Winbush announced today that Andy Ferguson has been named assistant athletics director for external affairs.

"We are excited to welcome Andy to our team," said Winbush. "This position is critical to the success of our department and we believe Andy's background and enthusiasm will allow him to excel in his new role."

Ferguson comes to Shepherd from Lincoln Memorial University where he served as assistant athletic director of athletic development since 2018. He previously worked as a graduate assistant for sports communications and marketing at Lincoln Memorial.

"I would like to thank Mr. Winbush, Ms. Ford, and the rest of the staff for the opportunity to join the team at Shepherd University," said Ferguson. "I look forward to working with administrators and coaches as we move toward enhancing not only the student-athlete experience but also the impact the university has on the surrounding community. It's an exciting time to be a part of the Ram family!"

Ferguson had a big role in the marketing and growth of the Lincoln Memorial athletics. His work was instrumental in significant increases in membership and revenue for the L Club, the official giving organization of LMU athletics. He also greatly increased corporate sponsorship and created and maintained the ticketing system for LMU.

Ferguson joined the LMU athletics staff in August 2016 after multiple years in the on-field entertainment and corporate sales industry for various professional baseball organizations.

Prior to beginning his transition to the University's development department, Ferguson handled numerous duties as a graduate assistant for the athletic department, including serving as the liaison for Abe's Army, LMU's official student fan organization.  He handled several sponsorship and advertising accounts in the surrounding area while helping further the reach of the athletic department in the community in that role.

Ferguson earned a bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Missouri in 2013. During his time in Columbia, he also worked in development and alumni services for the Tiger athletic department.  He added a master's degree in business administration from LMU in May 2018.
