SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Phil Bledsoe had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead Glenville State (11-16, 6-15 MEC) to a 79-65 win over Shepherd University (13-14, 9-12 MEC) inMEC men's basketball action on Senior Night at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
Bledsoe hit on 6-of-13 field goals with a 4-of-8 effort from three-point range. He drained 5-of-5 foul shots.
Junior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) and freshman guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) each had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the Rams. Lang added four assists.
Senior forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) added 15 points and five rebounds.
Jamal Pollydore added 17 points for the Pioneers. Kalin Johnson tossed in 13, while Noah Frampton added 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Glenville State had a 39-27 advantage at the break.
The Pioneers held a single-digit lead throughout most of the second half. The Rams trailed by six points at 71-65 after a layup by Burgess with 2:04 left in the contest, but the Pioneers closed on a 7-0 run to seal the victory.
Shepherd connected on 30.4 percent (21-69) from the floor with a 20.7 percent (6-29) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 85 percent (17-20) of their free throws.
Glenville State shot 45.5 percent (25-55) from the floor with a 41.4 percent effort (12-29) from three-point range. The Pioneers shot 89.5 percent (17-19) from the charity stripe.
Glenville State had a 42-39 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed four.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Fairmont State for a 4 p.m. game.
