MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Shepherd University (29-11) dropped a 3-1 decision to 18th-ranked Millersville (31-9) in non-conference baseball action at Millersville on Tuesday.
The Marauders took a 3-0 lead with three unearned runs in the first inning. Eric Callahan hit a two-run double to key the rally.
Shepherd scored a run in the fourth as senior catcher Eddie Nottingham (Windsor Mill, Md./Mt. St. Joseph's/Catonsville CC) reached on a hit-by-pitch and later scored on a passed ball.
Junior first baseman Justin Smith (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg/Hagerstown CC) went 3-for-4 to lead a 10-hit attack for the Rams. Graduate student third baseman Syeed Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel/Norfolk State) added a pair of hits.
Kaylor Kulina, Jimmy Losh, and Callahan each had two hits for the Marauders.
Tyler Yankosky (1.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 K, 0 BB) (4-1) gained the win for the Marauders with Paul Wilson (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K 0 BB) earning the save. Junior Eric O'Brien (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman/Monroe CC) (6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 5 K, 2 BB) (2-1) took the loss for the Rams.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Notre Dame for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
