MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Five members of the Shepherd University baseball team have been selected to the 2019 D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Team. Junior outfielder Brenton Doyle (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run), sophomore outfielder Jared Carr (Martinsburg, W.Va./St. James School), and senior utility player Justin Smith (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg/Hagerstown CC) all garnered first team accolades, while graduate student third baseman Syeed Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel/Norfolk State) and senior pitcher Ryan Potts (Owings, Md./Northern) gained second team honors. 

Doyle, a repeat first teamer, hit .392 with 73 hits in 186 at-bats. He currently leads the country in runs scored (79) and runs scored per game (1.52). He added 17 doubles, six triples, and 13 home runs, and 47 runs batted in. He also has a   .758 slugging percentage, a .502 on-base percentage Doyle was 19-of-24 in stolen bases. The MEC Player of the Year was a four-time MEC Player of the Week and a two-time NCBWA Atlantic Region Player of the Week.

Carr hit a team-best .428 with 86 hits in 201 at-bats. He drove in 37 runs and scored 64. He added 16 doubles and five triples, and six round-trippers. He was 13-of-14 in stolen bases.

Smith, a repeat first-teamer, batted .379 with 66 hits in 174 at-bats. He drove in a team-best 65 runs and scored 58. His 19 doubles led the team. He added three triples and 13 home runs. He was 2-of-3 in stolen bases.

Mahdi hit .341 with 47 hits in 138 at-bats. He drove in 50 runs and scored 29. He added five doubles and 13 home runs. He was 12-of-15 in stolen bases.

Potts, a first team choice last season, posted a 7-3 mark with a 4.18 ERA. He fanned a team-high 96 batters in 71.0 innings. His four complete games were second on the team. He limited opponents to a .237 batting average.

The D2CCA region teams are voted on by sports information directors in the respective regions. The 16 members of the first team will advance to the national ballot for All-America consideration. The national ballot opens on May 22.
