SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Junior outfielder Brenton Doyle (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) of the Shepherd University baseball team has been selected by the Colorado Rockies in the fourth round of the Major League Draft. Doyle was the 129th pick and the first Division II player chosen in the draft.
Doyle, a two-time MEC Player of the Year, batted .392 with 73 hits in 186 at-bats for the Rams this season. He leads NCAA II in most runs scored per game (1.52), while his 79 runs scored tie for the top mark. He added 17 doubles, six triples, 13 home runs, and 47 runs batted in. Doyle gained third team ABCA/Rawlings and NCBWA All-American honors this season.
"I couldn't be happier for Brenton," said Shepherd head coach Matt McCarty. "To be the first D2 player drafted in 2019 says a lot about his skill and makeup. He has worked extremely hard and nobody deserves this moment more. He has a bright future ahead of him. Brenton is a phenomenal talent, but an even better person. The Rockies are getting a good one! I can't wait to see his continued growth and seeing him in a Rockies uniform."
