SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Ohio Dominican (1-0) rallied past Shepherd (0-1) for a 24-21 win in football action in the season opener for both schools at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
Shepherd took a 7-0 lead when sophomore quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W,Va./Martinsburg) teamed with senior wide receiver Devin Phelps (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances) on a 40-yard scoring play with 10:16 left in the first quarter. Junior kicker Hayden August-Scriven (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) added the extra point.
The Rams took a 14-0 advantage when senior running back Deonte Glover (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/WVU) scored on a one-yard plunge with 14:39 left in the second quarter.
Ohio Dominican got a 33-yard field goal from Kevin Laming with 12 seconds left in the half to narrow the lead to 14-3 at the half.
The Panthers scored on a 77-yard pass play from Evan Ernst to Devanaire Concliff with 7:20 left in the third quarter to cut the advantage to 14-10.
Bagent teamed with junior wide receiver Rodney Dorsey (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) on an 18-yard scoring pass with 50 seconds left in the third quarter to up the Shepherd lead to 21-10.
Fred Pitts scored on a five-yard run with 13:59 left in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 21-16. The two-point conversion pass attempt went incomplete.
Ernst teamed with Concliffe on a five-yard score with 1:07 to rally for the win. Ernst then hit Pitts on a two-point scoring pass.
Shepherd drove down the field in the final minute, but a pass intended for junior wide receiver Jordan Washington (Suitland, Md./Forestville) near the end zone on the game's final play was broken up by Jayden Davis.
Bagent completed 30-of-43 passes for 358 yards. Ernst connected on 31-of-39 passes for 273 yards.
Dorsey had seven catches for 89 yards and Phelps had six receptions for 89 yards to lead the Shepherd receivers. David Turner had 10 catches for 61 yards and Concliffe had three grabs for 96 yards to lead the Panthers.
Sophomore running back Ty Hebron (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) rushed 10 times for 62 yards to lead the Shepherd ground attack. Pitts rushed five times for 22 yards for ODU.
Shepherd had 459 yards of total offense, while Ohio Dominican had 329.
Junior linebacker Chrys Lane (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) recorded a game-high 11 tackles (10 solos) with one tackle-for-loss for the Rams. Dauson Dales recorded 10 tackles (eight solos) for the Panthers.
The Rams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Mercyhurst for a 3 p.m. contest.

Devin Phelps had seven receptions for 89 yards and a score.
Ty Hebron rushed 10 times for a game-high 62 yards.
