Box Score 2 GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Shepherd University (1-3) dropped a pair of games in softball action at the Glenville State Softball Tournament on Sunday. The Rams suffered a 9-4 setback to West Virginia Wesleyan in an early game and later dropped a 10-0 loss to Charleston.
Sophomore third baseman Nicole Purtell (Centreville, Va./Centreville) had three doubles and scored a pair of runs against West Virginia Wesleyan.
Junior shortstop Ashley Burger (Hedgesville, W.Va./Spring Mills) added a 2-for-4 effort with a double and a single.
Wesleyan scored four runs in the fifth and three in the seventh to pull away for the win.
Alli Robinson and Kennedy Cowart each scored a pair of runs for the Bobcats.
Charleston took a 9-0 lead in the second inning with a grand slam by Megan Eder and a three-run double by Destinee Miles keying the rally.
Freshman designated player Kylie Condon (Charleston, W.Va./Washington) doubled and freshman outfielder Hannah Beeler (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) singled for the Rams.
Danielle Bauer (5.0 IP 2 H, 0 R, 6 K, 1 BB) gained the win for the Golden Eagles. Freshman pitcher Katie Laing (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) (2.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 0 K, 2 BB) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on March 4 when they travel to Bowie State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
