AIKEN, S.C. – USC Aiken (4-0) used a 10-hit attack and a strong pitching performance en route to a 13-0 win over Shepherd University (1-3) in baseball action at Roberti Hernandez Stadium on Friday.
The Pacers took a 6-0 lead in the second inning. They took advantage of two hits, two errors, and a pair of walks. Scott Huntley and Sean McQuillan each had RBI-singles.
After adding a run in the third, USC Aiken plated four more runs in the sixth to take an 11-0 advantage. Jackson Hannon had a two-run single to key the rally.
The Pacers completed the scoring with a pair of runs in the eighth. David Jacobs walked and Jose Hernandez followed with a double. Jacobs scored on a single by Marcus Mastellione and Hernandez later scored when Blake Jenkins grounded into a double play.
Senior shortstop Trenton Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) broke up a no-hit bid by the Pacers with a leadoff single in the top of the ninth.
McQuillan went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored to lead USC Aiken.
Pacer starter Lindsey Robinson Jr. (2-0) (6.0 IP, 8 K 2 BB) gained the win. Senior pitcher Steve Bowley (Medford, N.J./Holy Cross Academy/Cumberland County) (5.0 IP, 7 H, 11 ER, 4 K, 2 BB) (0-1) took the loss.
The two teams return to action on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
