SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Shepherd (17-5, 11-5) to a 75-73 win over Bloomsburg (10-11, 7-10) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Clayton connected on 9-of-17 shots with a 7-of-7 effort from the foul line. Her 25 points and five blocked shots were game highs. Clayton recorded her eighth double-double of the season.
Junior guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) added 20 points, while freshman guard Abby Beeman (Ridgely, W.Va./Frankfort) was two rebounds shy of a triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and eight rebounds.
Emma Saxton scored 21 points to lead the Huskies. Taylor Montana added 19 points, while Meghan Corridoni had 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Shepherd had a 42-39 lead at the half.
The Huskies had a 60-56 lead after three periods. Shepherd rallied to take the lead for good at 67-65 on a three-pointer by freshman forward Cara Minor (Hundred, W.Va./North Marion) with 6:27 remaining.
The Huskies cut the Shepherd lead to two points at 75-73 after a pair of free throws by Taylor Montana with 34 seconds left. Bloomsburg had the ball with few seconds left in regulation but was unable to get a shot off.
Shepherd shot 46.6 percent (27-58) from the floor with a 30 percent effort (6-20) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 75 percent (15-20) of their free throws.
Bloomsburg hit on 44.6 percent (25-56) from the floor with a 50 percent effort (5-10) from three-point range for the game. The Huskies connected on 81.8 percent (18-22) of their free throws.
Bloomsburg had a 41-27 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 16 turnovers and committed eight.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host West Chester for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
