MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Caden Najdawi scored a game-high 25 points to lead Millersville (15-14) to a 79-69 win over Shepherd University (14-15) in first round action of the PSAC Men's Basketball Tournament at Millersville on Monday night.
Najwadi hit on 10-of-20 shots with a 5-of-7 effort from the charity stripe. He also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
Junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed six boards to pace the Rams. He connected on 8-of-19 field goals with a 3-of-5 effort from foul line.
Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) added 17 points with a 4-of-7 effort from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) had 12 points and freshman guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) tossed in 11.
James Sullivan added 17 points and Khari Williams had 15 for the Marauders. Justin Nwosu scored 11 points.
Millersville opened the game on an 18-5 run and took a 41-34 lead into intermission.
Shepherd rallied to get to within four points at 71-67 after Daggett scored on a dunk and added a free throw with 4:06 remaining in the game. Millersville closed on an 8-2 run to seal the win.
Shepherd connected on 43.9 percent (25-57) from the floor with a 34.8 percent (8-23) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 84.6 percent (11-13) of their free throws.
Millersville shot 45.5 percent (26-66) from the floor with a 33.3 percent effort (6-18) from three-point range. The Marauders shot 72.2 percent (13-18) from the foul line.
Millersville had a 42-29 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced nine turnovers and committed 14.
Notes: Thomas Lang completed his career with 1,560 points to tie Danley Shank for 14th place on the Shepherd all-time scoring list … his 310 career three-pointers rank him third (Steffen Davis, 335 and Brantley Osborne, 315) … Lang's 311 career assists place him 14th on the SU all-time list ...
