WILSON, N.C. – Shepherd University (11-7) used an 11-hit attack en route to an 11-1 victory over Lock Haven (5-4) in baseball action in Wilson, North Carolina on Sunday. The Rams extended their winning streak to five games.
The Rams took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single off the bat of junior outfielder Daniel Keer (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic).
After the Bald Eagles scored a run in the second, Shepherd tacked on two runs in the third on a two-run blast by Keer to take a 4-1 lead.=
The Rams added a pair of runs in the fourth behind an RBI-single by sophomore outfielder Brennan Holmes (Ona, W.Va./Cabell Midland) and an RBI-double by junior outfielder Jared Carr (Martinsburg, W.Va./St. James School).
Shepherd completed the scoring with four runs in the fifth. Carr had a two-run double, while sophomore catcher Andrew Edwards (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac), senior first baseman Dalton Stewart (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro/UMBC), and Holmes each added RBI-singles.
Holmes went 3-for-3 and Carr wnet 2-for-3 to pace the Rams. Redshirt-sophomore third baseman Damond Nixon (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley/Florence-Darlington Tech) added a 2-for-4 effort.
Quin Ambeault went 3-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Bald Eagles.
Senior pitcher Ryan Marketell (Webster, N.Y./Webster/Monroe CC) (5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 UER, 0 K, 1 BB) (2-0) earned the win. Bald Eagle starter Devin Fahnestock (4.0 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 4 K, 3 BB) (0-1) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Shippensburg for a 2 p.m. game.
