Fairfax Field was officially given its name on November 17, 1923 in ceremonies as part of a football game between Shepherd and Potomac State. The field served both the Shepherd football and baseball programs until the football team relocated to Ram Stadium exclusively in 1960. The field has served as a football practice field, an intramural field, and even a softball field over the years. The field has been used exclusively for baseball since 1991.
