Shepherd Baseball Senior Class Spotlight

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.Joe Burack (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) Trenton Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Milbrook), and Tyler Shorter (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown/Potomac State) represent the 2020 senior class for the Shepherd baseball team.
 
Joe Burack
 
Burack is four-year letterwinner for the baseball team. He appeared in 61 games with 30 starts. He batted .235 for his career. He scored 28 runs and drove in 18. Burack added five doubles and two home runs to go along with 17 walks. He was hit-by-pitch five times was 1-of-1 in stolen bases. Shepherd posted a 118-64 mark over his career. The Rams won an MEC title (2017), three MEC North titles (2017, 2018, 2019) and made a pair of NCAA II regional appearances (2017, 2018) over that period.
 
 
Burack Reflects on His Career:
 
"My time at Shepherd was undoubtedly one to remember. The culture of Rams' baseball is something I can take with me the rest of my life and apply it going forward in future jobs and endeavors. I feel extremely blessed to have been a part of many great Shepherd teams and make lifelong friends in the process."
 
 
Burack Gives Thanks and Looks to the Future:
 
"I would I would first like to thank the coaching staff (Matt McCarty, Patrick Smith, and Rob Koski) for giving me an opportunity to play college baseball, but for also giving me four great years within the program. I would also like to thank my family and friends for their constant support over the past four years. As a student of Shepherd University I received my bachelor's degree in recreation leisure studies with a concentration in sports marketing with a minor in business administration. I am currently planning to become a career firefighter to give back to my local community. Finally, thank you Shepherd University for a great college career."
 
Coach McCarty on Joe Burack:
 
"When you speak of the name Joe Burack, the first word that comes to mind is leader. You have been a part of our program for four seasons now and played multiple roles from catcher to DH, to first base. You have grown so much and have been a staple in our program. You are one of the hardest working individuals I've had the pleasure of coaching and push the people around you to be better, on and off the field. We wish you all the success in the future and thank you for your commitment these past four seasons. You will be greatly missed in many ways but we know your future is bright. Thank you Joe!" 
 
Trenton Burgreen
 
Burgreen is four-year letterwinner for the baseball team. He appeared in 151 games with 141 starts. He batted .258 for his career. He scored 107 runs and drove in 61. Burgreen added 18 doubles, a triple, and nine home runs to go along with 58 walks. He was hit-by-pitch 17 times was 21-of-24 in stolen bases. Shepherd posted a 118-64 mark over his career. The Rams won an MEC title (2017), three MEC North titles (2017, 2018, 2019) and made a pair of NCAA II regional appearances (2017, 2018) over that period.
 
 
Coach McCarty on Trenton Burgreen:
 
"Trenton, you came to Shepherd wanting to immediately step into a starting role and make an impact your freshmen season and you did just that. You have been a four-year starter and a staple that will be greatly missed. Your willingness to learn and get better every day, not only on the field but in the classroom, is what makes you a special person. Thanks for everything you've done in your four seasons at Shepherd University and good luck in the future! Thank you Trenton!!"
 
Tyler Shorter
 
Shorter is two-year member of the Shepherd baseball team.  He appeared in 19 games with one start. He posted a 3-5 mark with a pair of saves for his career. He fanned 27 and walked 18 in 36 innings. The Rams posted a 47-23 mark over his career.
 
 
Coach McCarty on Tyler Shorter:
 
"Tyler, the impact you have made in our program in a short period of time on the field and off the field has been immensely appreciated. Your leadership and work ethic is what separates you and makes you very special. You have played a key role on our pitching staff for the past two seasons and showed the new/young guys everyday on how things are supposed to be done.  We thank you for the standard you have set. Continue to set the bar high and push the others around you! Thank you Tyler! 
 
 
Coach McCarty on the 2020 Class
 
"The first word that comes to mind when speaking of you is Champions. You've truly set the standard of what it means to be a Shepherd Ram! You've shown everyone in our program what it's supposed to look like and how it's supposed to be done on a daily basis. We thank you for your leadership and work ethic. You not only your make your teammates better, but you make us better coaches as well! We wish you continued success in the future! Thank you!
