LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Twelve members of the Shepherd University football team gained All-PSAC East honors as announced by the league office today. Additionally, junior quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) was named PSAC East Offensive Player of the Year and redshirt-freshman wide receiver Ryan Beach (Frederick, Md./Northwest) was selected as PSAC East Rookie of the Year.
Bagent has completed 287-of-407 passes (70.52 percent) for 3,914 yards and 46 touchdowns. He has a 184.66 quarterback rating. Bagent leads NCAA II in passing yards (3,914), passing yards per game (355.8), passing touchdowns (46), points responsible for (290), points responsible for per game (26.4), and total offense (360.1). He was named PSAC Athlete of the Week five times this season as Shepherd finished second in the PSAC East and earned the No. 2 seed in Super Region 1 for the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs. He was a Harlon Hill candidate in 2018 and 2019 and is again this season.
Beach leads the Shepherd receivers with 70 receptions for 939 yards and 13 touchdowns. He averages 85.4 receiving yards per game.
Sophomore running back Ronnie Brown (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk), junior offensive tackles Joey Fisher (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Spring), graduate student offensive tackle Eric Ostrow (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin), graduate student offensive guard Cole Weaver (Keyser, W.Va./Keyser), graduate student tight end Alex Wetzel (Keedysville, W.Va./Boonsboro), graduate student return specialist Josh Gontarek (New Market, Md./Linganore/Shippensburg), graduate student defensive lineman Juwan Addison (Richmond, Va./Monacan), senior linebacker Chrys Lane (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk), and graduate student defensive back Ponce Deleon (Greenbelt, Md./Montgomery Blair) join Bagent and Beach as first team selections.
Brown has 73 carries for 745 yards and seven touchdowns. He also adds 19 receptions for 465 yards and five scores.
Fisher, Ostrow, and Weaver key an offensive line that helps Shepherd lead all NCAA II schools in total offense (541.8), passing offense (361.2), and scoring offense (49.4). The Rams also rank fourth nationally in tackles for loss allowed (2.82).
Wetzel has 24 receptions for 290 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Gontarek has 41 receptions for 785 yards and eight touchdowns on the season. He has 17 punt returns for 243 yards (14.29 average). He had a 73-yard return for a touchdown against Bloomsburg.
Addison has recorded 34 tackles (21 solos) on the year. He has six tackles-for-loss (17 yards) and a pair of sacks (-10 yards). He adds two forced fumbles, and interception and a quarterback hit.
Lane leads the team in solo tackles (43) and total tackles (71). He adds six tackles-for-loss (-36 yards) and three sacks (-30 yards). He also has four pass breakups and a pair of quarterback hits.
Deleon has 61 tackles (42 solos) for the year. He has 1.5 tackles-for-loss (-2 yards). Deleon added six pass breakups and an interception.
Graduate student defensive lineman Ricky Robinson (Mathias, W.Va./East Hardy) and Gontarek (as a wide receiver) earned second team honors.
Robinson has 33 tackles (23 solos) on the season. He adds one sack (-11 yards) and a pair of quarterback hits.
