Dextradeur Lifts Shepherd Women's Lacrosse Past Kutztown in Season Opener

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Freshman attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) scored an unassisted goal with three seconds remaining in regulation  to lift Shepherd (1-0, 1-0 PSAC East) to a 15-14 win over Kutztown (0-1, 0-1 PSAC East) in PSAC women's lacrosse action at Kutztown on Wednesday. The Rams gained their first conference win as a member of the PSAC.

Junior midfielder Kira Barth (Sykesville, Md./Century) and junior midfielder Katherine Campbell (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) each had three goals to lead the Rams.

Freshman attacker Sam Lassahn (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Prep), freshman midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), and Dextradeur each tallied a pair of goals.

Junior midfielder Maggie Luzier (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro/St. Francis) had a goal and an assist. Junior midfielder Maddison Young (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) and junior attacker Haleigh Piccolo (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) each had a goal. Senior attacker Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) posted a pair of assists and freshman midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) added another.

Allie McCormick had four goals and an assist to lead the Golden Bears. Morgan Hurd added three goals and an assist.

Kutztown had an 8-6 lead at halftime.

Trailing 11-9 in the second half, Shepherd rallied with five consecutive goals to take a 14-11 lead. Campbell had a pair of goals during the run.

Kutztown scored three unanswered goals to set the stage for Dextradeur's game-winner.

Junior goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded five saves for the Rams. Jenna Blesson (7) and Courtney Gallagher (0) combined for seven saves for the Golden Bears.

Shepherd was 16-of-18 in clears, while Kutztown was 17-of-20. Shepherd had a 20-15 edge in ground balls, while Kutztown had a 19-12 advantage in draw controls.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Bloomsburg for a 4 p.m. contest at Ram Stadium.
