Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Rallies Past Lock Haven; Bennett Sets Saves Mark

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Junior midfielder Makenna Luzier (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro/St. Francis) scored on a feed from freshman attacker Sam Lassahn (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Prep) with 2:45 remaining to lift Shepherd (4-6) to a 12-11 win over Lock Haven (2-4) in women's lacrosse action at Lock Haven on Friday. The Rams scored seven unanswered goals to capture the victory. 

Luzier and Lassahn each had three goals and an assist to pace the Rams. Freshman midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) added three goals. 

Junior midfielder Maggie Luzier (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro/St. Francis),  freshman midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), and freshman attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) each contributed a goal and an assist. Luzier led the Rams with four draw controls. 

Lock Haven had an 8-4 lead at halftime. 

The Bald Eagles scored three of the first four goals in the second half to take an 11-6 lead. 

Edwards scored three goals and Makenna Luzier added a pair as the Rams closed the game on a 7-0 run. 

Junior goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded 17 saves for the Rams. Lauren Girardi recorded 10 saves for the Bald Eagles. Bennett's 17 saves give her 355 for her career to move her past Casey Hickman (350, 2015-2018) as the program's all-time leader.

Shots were even at 34-all. Lock Haven was 25-of-28 in clears, while Shepherd was 20-of-28. Shepherd had a 15-10 edge in draw controls, while Lock Haven had a 28-23 advantage in ground balls. 

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host West Chester for a 4 p.m. contest.
