SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior outfielder
Jared Carr (Martinsburg, W.Va./St. James) of the Shepherd University baseball team has been drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 13th round of the Major League Draft. Carr, the 385th pick, becomes the fourth Shepherd baseball player to be taken in the MLB Draft.
Carr, a 2021 honorable mention National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-American, helped lead Shepherd to a 22-14-1 mark this season with a .375 batting average with 48 hits in 128 at-bats. He drove in a team-best 41 runs and scored 38. He has added 12 doubles and a team-best 11 home runs. He also led the team with 25 stolen bases. Carr added a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 61 chances. He was named PSAC East Athlete of the Week for April 19. Carr is one of just four Shepherd baseball players who have garnered All-American honors in more than one season.
"It has always been a dream of mine to be drafted by a Major League baseball team," stated Carr. "I am excited that I have achieved that goal, but there are still more goals to reach. I am extremely thankful for those who have me along the way, especially my parents."
