SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) scored 20 points and senior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) added 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Shepherd University (9-9, 5-7 PSAC) to a 70-65 win over West Chester (10-8, 5-8 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday night.
Preston connected on 6-of-8 field goals with a 3-of-5 effort from three-point range. He was 5-of-5 from the foul line. He also grabbed five boards and handed out four assists.
Daggett connected on 7-of-12 field goals with a 3-of-6 effort from the foul line.
Sophomore guard Jordan Gibson (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson/Presbyterian) added 13 points, while sophomore guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) added 10 points and four boards.
Matt Dade led the Golden Rams with 21 points. Elijah Allen added nine points and Robert Smith had eight.
Shepherd had a 33-32 advantage at halftime.
Shepherd connected on 47.1 percent (24-51) from the floor with a 40.9 percent (9-22) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 72.2 percent (13-18) of their free throws.
West Chester shot 44.6 percent (25-56) from the floor with a 34.8 percent effort (8-23) from three-point range. The Golden Rams shot 70 percent (7-10) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 37-26 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced six turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to West Chester for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
