Shepherd Football Tops Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. –  Senior quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) completed 27-of-45 passes for 252 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and junior running back Ronnie Brown (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) added 22 carries for 171 yards and two scores to lead #4/5 Shepherd (5-0, 2-0 PSAC East) to a 30-13 win over Shippensburg (2-3, 1-1 PSAC East) in football action at Shippensburg on Saturday.  

Shippensburg took a 7-0 lead with 2:05 left in the second quarter when Khalid Dorsey raced 80 yards for a touchdown. 

Bagent found senior tight end Brian Walker (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) in the end zone for a 26-yard scoring pass with 19 seconds left in the half. Redshirt-sophomore kicker Jacob Haynie (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) added the extra point to tie the game at 7-7. 

Shepherd took a 9-7 lead with 9:49 left in the third quarter when a snap for a would-be Shippensburg punt went out of the end zone. 

Bagent tossed a two-yard scoring pass to Walker with 4:52 left in the third quarter to up the lead to 16-7. 

Junior running back Ronnie Brown (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) sprinted 20 yards for a score with 1:48 left in the third quarter to give the Rams a 23-7 advantage. 

Sam Johnson fired a 57-yard scoring strike to Alex Rufe with 6:05 left in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 23-13. A pass for a two-point conversion was unsuccessful. 

Brown ran 43 yards for a score for the Rams with 1:33 left to complete the scoring. 

Johnson completed 17-of-29 passes for 197 yards and a score for the Raiders. 

Redshirt-sophomore wide receiver Ryan Beach (Frederick, Md./Northwest) led the Shepherd receivers with nine catches for 89 yards. Walkers added six grabs for 56 yards and a pair of scores. Redd Douglas had five receptions for 42 yards to lead the Raiders. 

Shepherd had 456 yards of total offense, while Shippensburg totaled 342.  

Junior safety Keyshawn Hailey (Fairmont, W.Va./Mt. St. Joseph {Md.}) had eight tackles (three solos) to lead the Shepherd defense. Tyler Simon recorded a game-high 13 tackles (10 solos) to lead Shippensburg.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Lock Haven at noon for Hall of Fame Weekend.
