RICHMOND, Va. – Ny Langley scored a game-high 13 points to lead Virginia Union (4-2) to a 69-49 win over Shepherd University (0-5) in women's basketball action at Virginia Union on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore guard Meghan Shipley (Middletown, Md./Middletown) led the Rams with 12 points. She was 5-of-9 from the floor with a 1-of-1 effort from three-point range. She was 1-of-2 from the foul line.
Sophomore guard Deaira Hairston (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) added 11 points, while sophomore guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) dished out a game-high four assists and tossed in five points. Sophomore forwards Neresha Miller (Landover, Md./DuVal/Alderson Broaddus) and Neresha Miller (Landover, Md./DuVal/Alderson Broaddus) tied for team-high rebounding honors with five apiece.
Naeva Rene had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Panthers. Virginia Union had five players in double figures as Darryn Zeigler had 12 points and Brittni Martin and Jhakia Gist each tossed in 10.
Virginia Union had a 29-21 lead at halftime.
Shepherd shot 32.1 percent (18-56) from the floor with a 36.8 percent (7-19) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 42.9 percent (6-14) of their free throws.
Virginia Union shot 33.8 percent (25-74) from the floor with a 21.7 percent effort (5-23) from three-point range. The Panthers shot 70 percent (14-20) from the foul line.
Virginia Union had a 52-30 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced six turnovers and committed 16.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Slippery Rock for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
