Shepherd Men Hold Off Clarion

CLARION, Pa. -- Junior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) had 16 points, six rebounds, and two steals to lead Shepherd (6-4, 3-1 PSAC) to a 54-52 win over Clarion (2-8, 0-4 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Clarion on Monday. 

McClain-Corley connected on 6-of-16 shots from the floor with a 2-of-9 effort from three-point range. He was 2-for-2 from the foul line. 

Senior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) had 11 points and five rebounds, while junior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) added nine points, six rebounds, and three assists.  

Gerald Jarmon had 16 points and Mekhi Reynolds added 13 to lead the Golden Eagles. Justice Easter tossed in 12 points. 

Shepherd connected on 38.9 percent (21-54) of its field goals with a 28.6 percent (8-28) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 57.1 percent (4-7) of their free throws. 

Clarion shot 40.4 percent (19-47) from the floor with a 31 percent (9-29) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles hit on 83.3 percent (5-6) of their free throws. 

Shepherd had a 28-24 advantage at halftime. 

Neither team led by more than six points during the contest. Shepherd took the lead for good at 52-49 on a three-pointer by McClain-Corley with 36 seconds left in regulation. McClain-Corley added a pair of free throws with eight seconds left, and Reynolds drained a three-pointer for the Golden Eagles with one second remaining.

Clarion had a 32-30 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed eight. 

The Rams return to action on Dec. 30 when they host Pitt-Johnstown for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
