Don Hansen Release

BROOKFIELD, Ill. — Three members of the Shepherd University football team have been named to the 2021 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team as released by the Don Hansen Football Committee. Junior quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) was a first team choice. Junior offensive lineman Joey Fisher (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Spring) and graduate student offensive lineman Eric Ostrow (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) were honorable mention selections. Additionally, Bagent was named Offensive Player of the Year.

Bagent led the Rams to a 13-2 mark this season and an appearance in the national semifinals. He completed 391-of-579 passes for 5,000 yards and 53 touchdowns. He led NCAA Division II in passing yards (5,000), touchdown passes (53), and points responsible for (338). He passed for four touchdowns or more in nine games. A five-time PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Week this season, Bagent also threw for 300 yards or more in 10 contests. He is the ninth player at all NCAA levels - and only the second in Division II - with at least 5,000 passing yards and 50 touchdown passes.

Fisher and Ostrow keyed an offensive line that helped Shepherd lead all NCAA II schools in first down offense (369). The Rams also ranked second in third down conversion (.550), third in total offense (502.7), and fourth in both passing offense (337.3), and scoring offense (43.7).

The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.
