SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd (4-4) swept Lincoln University in doubleheader baseball action at Fairfax Field on Saturday in the home opener for the Rams. Shepherd used a 16-hit attack en route to a 17-0 win in game one and added a 4-0 triumph in the nightcap.
Junior third baseman Ryan Haddaway (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) went 4-for-4 with four runs scored to lead the Rams in game one. He had a pair of doubles and drove in a run. Graduate student outfielder Daniel Keer (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic) added a 2-for-3 effort with three runs batted in and a pair of runs scored He also hit a pair of doubles.
Junior first baseman Ross Mulhall (Morgantown, W.Va./University/Gardner-Webb) posted a 3-for-3 effort with three RBI and a run scored.
CarVonte Williams doubled in the third inning for Lincoln's only hit of the game.
Junior pitcher Tanner Dixon (Frederick, Md./Frederick) (4.0 IP, 1 H, 9 K, 0 BB) (1-0) earned the win in game one. Nick Spurlock (1.0 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 K, 3 BB) (0-3) took the loss for Lincoln.
Shepherd took a 3-0 lead in the third inning of the nightcap. Junior outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC) hit a two-run double and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of graduate student outfielder Daniel Keer (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic).
The Rams added a run in the sixth as graduate student infielder Joey Schwartz (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg/Western Kentucky) reached on a walk and later scored on a wild pitch.
Williams doubled and Jalen Godette singled to lead the Lions.
Sophomore pitcher Daniel Keane (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove) (4.0 IP, 2 H, 6K, 1 BB) (1-0) picked up the win. Senior reliever Cole Dunn (Middletown, Del./Middletown/Radford) fanned five and did not allow a hit in the final three innings to pick up the save. Lincoln starter Hasan Aquil (2.0 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 K, 2BB) (0-1) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Francis Marion for a 6 p.m. contest.
