MANSFIELD, Pa. – Graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) scored a game-high 34 points to lead Shepherd University (22-6, 16-6 PSAC) to a 68-65 win over Mansfield (7-19, 6-16 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at Mansfield on Saturday.
Clayton hit on 14-of-22 field goals with a 1-of-1 effort from three-point range. She was 5-of-7 from the foul line. She also added 10 rebounds to post her 10th double-double of the season.
Graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) added 12 points and four boards, while junior forward Cara Minor (Hundred, W.Va./North Marion) added eight points.
Junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) dished out a game-high 10 assists and senior guard Hannah Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) posted a game-high five steals.
Alivia Paeglow had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead the Mounties. Jasmine Hilton added 13 points and 17 rebounds, while Paige Whitfield also tossed in 13 points.
Mansfield had a 36-30 lead at the break.
Shepherd shot 47.3 percent (26-55) from the floor with a 44.4 percent effort (4-9) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 63.2 percent (12-19) of their free throws.
Mansfield hit on 39.4 percent (26-66) from the floor with a 25 percent effort (6-24) from three-point range for the game. The Mountaineers connected on 77.8 percent (7-9) of their free throws.
Mansfield had a 45-28 advantage on the boards. Shepherd forced 22 turnovers and committed 14.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they host West Chester at 6 p.m. for first round action of the PSAC Tournament.
