Shepherd Women Knock Off Bloomsburg to Advance to PSAC Tournament Semifinals

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.  – Junior guard Abby Beeman (Ridgeley, W.Va./Frankfort) a game-high 32 points and graduate student forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 25  to lead Shepherd University (24-6) to a 76-53 win over Bloomsburg (18-11) in quarterfinal action of the PSAC Women's Basketball Tournament at Bloomsburg on Wednesday night. 

Beeman connected on 10-of-19 shots with a 2-of-6 effort from three-point range. She was 10-of-10 from the foul line. She added 10 assists and seven rebounds. Beeman recorded her eighth double-double of the season. 

Clayton hit on 10-of-23 field goals with a 5-of-6 effort from the foul line. She also added 12 rebounds to post her 12th double-double of the season.  

Graduate student guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield)  tossed in 11 points and senior guard Hannah Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) tied a career high with nine rebounds. 

Emma Gochnauer had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the Huskies. Meghan Corridoni added 10 points and six boards. 

Shepherd had a 33-26 lead at the break behind 20 first-half points from Clayton. 

Shepherd had an 11-point lead at 52-41at the end of three quarters. The Rams outscored the Huskies, 24-12, in the final quarter to secure the win. 

Shepherd shot 45.9 percent (28-61) from the floor with a 40 percent effort (4-10) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 88.9 percent (16-18) of their free throws. 

Bloomsburg hit on 28.6 percent (18-63) from the floor with a 10.5 percent effort (2-19) from three-point range for the game. The Huskies connected on 78.9 percent (15-19) of their free throws. 

Bloomsburg had a 42-39 rebounding advantage.  Shepherd forced 13 turnovers and committed nine.  

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they take on California (Pa.), a 72-48 winner over Edinboro, in semifinal action of the PSAC Tournament.at Kutztown. Tip-off time is set for 1 p.m.. 

Notes: Shepherd's 24 wins this season tie the 2007-08 team (24-7) from the most wins in program history … tonight's win gave head coach Jenna Eckleberry her 117th career win to move past Jodie Runner (116) into second place on the program's all-time wins list … Shepherd recorded its first win over the Huskies this season after dropping a 71-60 decision at home in January and suffering a 55-46 setback at Bloomsburg in February.
