SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (11-12-1, 6-6-1 PSAC East) rallied past 16th-ranked West Chester (17-7, 6-4 PSAC East) for a 3-1 victory in PSAC East baseball action at Fairfax Field on Sunday afternoon.
West Chester took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a solo blast to left by Luke Cantwell.
Shepherd took a 2-1 lead in the fifth as junior third baseman Ryan Haddaway (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) walked and scored on a two-run homer off the bat of graduate student outfielder Daniel Keer (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic).
The Ram added a run in the sixth as graduate student second baseman Joey Schwartz (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg/Western Kentucky) reached on a two-out walk and scored when Keer walked with the bases loaded.
Sophomore designated hitter Peyton Mason (Knoxville, Md./Boonsboro/Wilson College) and Keer each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Zack Wright, Zack Miles, and Cantwell each had two hits for the Golden Rams.
Sophomore pitcher Chris Chaney (Falling Waters, W.Va./Saint James School/Maryland) (6.0 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 6 K, 2 BB) (2-4) picked up the win. Graduate student pitcher Adam Miller (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) (3.0 IP, 0 H 0 R, 2 K, 3 BB) earned the save. West Chester starter Braeden Fausnaught (5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 9 K, 4 BB) (5-1) took the loss.
The two teams return to action on Monday for a noon doubleheader at West Chester.
