SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University Vice President for Athletics Chauncey Winbush announced today that Nick Atkinson has been named head strength and conditioning coach. Atkinson comes to Shepherd after working as a graduate assistant with the strength and conditioning program at the University of Akron.
Atkinson oversaw the strength and conditioning for the Akron baseball and women's lacrosse teams. He also assisted with the men's and women's basketball programs.
Prior to working with Akron, Atkinson was a strength and conditioning intern with the football program at the University of Florida.
Atkinson graduated from Shepherd in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in health promotion and exercise science. He was a member of the Shepherd baseball team from 2018-19. Atkinson earned first team All-MEC honors for the Rams in 2018. He also garnered All-Region honors from ABCA/Rawlings (first team), D2CCA (second team), and NCBWA (second team). He was a two-time MEC Player of the Week and was the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week for March 28, 2018.
Atkinson is slated to graduate with a master's degree in sport science/coaching from Akron in December.
