KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Shepherd University men's cross country team finished 13th in a 13-team field at the DII/DIII Challenge at Kutztown on Friday night. Shippensburg won the 6K men's race and the women's 4K race. Shippensburg won the men's team title with a score of 34, with Moravian runner-up (75), and DeSales third (87). Gage Krall of Lock Haven led start-to-finish with a winning 8K time of 26:04.2. In the women's race, Lock Haven (63) held off Kutztown (77) and Shippensburg (77) for the team victory. Krista Jones of Lock Haven won the race in 23:14.6.
The men were led by freshman Parker Mackey (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) who finished 94th with a time of 30:41.80. He was followed by sophomore Noah Cupp (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville)(99th, 30:58.80), sophomore James Burdock (Stephenson, Va./James Wood) (118th, 32:25.10), senior Stephen Rivera (Kearneysville, W.Va./Home Schooled) (120th,3245.10), freshman Nick Yankle (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) (127th, 32:51.10), freshman Nick Szabo (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) (131st, 34:02.80), and sophomore Jonathan Weller (Martinsburg, W.Va./Spring Mills) (133rd, 34:14.00).
The women were led by freshman Margarita Salvador (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) who finished 117th with a time of 31:25.00. She was followed by junior Kayla Austin (Herndon, Va./Westfield) (127th, 39:06.90), and senior Anna Berwanger (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) (128th, 39:29.40).
The Rams return to action next Saturday when they travel to the Lock Haven Invitational.
