ERIE, Pa. – Jayde Boyd scored a game-high 26 points to lead Mercyhurst (10-5, 5-3 PSAC) to an 85-65 win over Shepherd University (0-13, 0-8 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at Mercyhurst on Wednesday
Sophomore guard Meghan Shipley (Middletown, Md./Middletown) scored a career-high 21 points to pace the Rams. Shipley connected on 9-of-16 field goals with a 3-of-5 effort from the foul line.
Senior forward Cara Minor (Hundred, W.Va./North Marion) tied a career-high effort with 14 points. Junior guard Madison Mertz (Maugansville, Md./North Hagerstown) added eight points on an 8-of-8 effort from the foul line. Sophomore forward Neresha Miller (Landover, Md./DuVal/Alderson Broaddus) contributed six points and a team-high six rebounds.
Paige Woodford and Grace Centrulla each had 11 points for the Lakers. Centrulla also grabbed a game-high seven boards.
Mercyhurst had a 45-44 lead at halftime.
The Lakers used a 20-3 run late in the third quarter and early in the fourth to take control with a 75-54 lead with 6:38 left in the game. Boyd had seven points during the run.
Shepherd shot 44.4 percent (24-55) from the floor with a 23.1 percent (3-15) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 66.7 percent (14-21) of their free throws.
Mercyhurst shot 51.5 percent (34-66) from the floor with a 50 percent effort (10-20) from three-point range. The Lakers shot 77.8 percent (7-9) from the foul line.
Mercyhurst had a 38-22 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 12 turnovers and committed a season-low 13.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Bloomsburg for a 3 p.m. contest.
