SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) scored a career-high 32 points to lead Shepherd (9-7, 6-4 PSAC) to a 96-88 upset win over #14/20 East Stroudsburg (14-2, 8-2 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
McClain-Corley connected on 12-of-17 field goals with a 7-of-10 effort from three-point range. He drained 1-of-2 free throws. He added seven rebounds and a pair of assists.
Senior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) had 15 points, while freshman forward Stefan Marcelle (Washington, D.C./Georgetown Prep) had 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Sophomore guard Aidan Hughley (York, Pa./York Suburban) scored 12 points and sophomore guard Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) added 11. Junior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) had nine points and a game-high six assists.
Carlos Pepin led the Warriors with 19 points and five assists. Lakeem McAliley had 18 points, while Jaelen McGlone tossed in 14.
Shepherd had a 49-38 lead at halftime behind 14 points each from McClain-Corley and Preston.
Shepherd led by as many as 19 points in the second half. East Stroudsburg rallied to within four points at 92-88 after a three-point play by Pepin with seven seconds remaining. Shepherd hit 4-of-4 free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.
Shepherd connected on 51.8 percent (29-56) of its field goals with a 53.8 percent (14-26) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 70.6 percent (24-34) of their free throws.
East Stroudsburg shot 51.9 percent (28-54) from the floor with a 48.1 percent (13-27) effort from beyond the arc. The Warriors hit 76 percent (19-25) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 32-30 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 10 turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Mansfield for a 3 p.m. contest.
Notes: Shepherd gained its first win over a ranked opponent since the Rams recorded a 74-67 win over #25 Shippensburg on January 2, 2019.
