BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Members of the Shepherd University men's and women's tennis team competed at the PSAC Individual Championships at Bloomsburg University on Sunday.
Junior Sebastian Sevilla (Ambato, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Atenas) posted a 6-4, 2-6, [10-7] win over Bruno Sabio of Edinboro in singles action in the round of 16. He added a 7-5, 6-2 win over Gonzalo Barcelo of Kutztown in the quarterfinals.
Senior Yuto Shimotsuji (Osaka, Japan/Naniwa/Campbellsville) dropped a 7-6, 4-6, [10-4) decision to Gustavo Martins of Edinboro.
Sevilla and Shimotsuji dropped a 9-8 (9-7) decision to Colm Schultz and Danylo Rekun of Mercyhurst in doubles play in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore Ximena Bolanos Tellez (Mineral de la Reforma, Mexico/Colegio Makarenko) and senior Marketa Beladova (Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic/Iowa Central Community College) posted an 8-3 win over Davan Lion and Alexis Strouse of Clarion in the round of 16. They later dropped an 8-0 decision to Katy Graydon and Lydia Alachou of IUP in the quarterfinals.
Beladova posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Maria Del Mar Ojeda of California (Pa.) in singles action in the round of 16. She later dropped a 6-1, 7-5 decision to Daniela Ramos of IUP in the quarterfinals.
Bolanos Tellez recorded a 6-3, 3-6 (10-7) win over Alexis Strouse in singles play in the round of 16. She later dropped a 6-1, 6-2 outcome to Ming Deewajee of IUP in the quarterfinals.
Semifinal action is slated for Monday.
