Shepherd Football Knocks Off East Stroudsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –  Junior quarterback Seth Morgan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon/VMI) completed 25-of-39 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns to lead Shepherd (8-2, 5-2 PSAC East) to a 44-17 win over East Stroudsburg (8-2, 5-2 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Shepherd took a 7-0 lead when Morgan teamed with redshirt freshman tight end Brian Jester (Frederick, Md./St. Frances Academy) on five-yard scoring strike with 8:57 left in the second quarter.

Shepherd upped its lead to 14-0 when redshirt junior running back Malakai Brown (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) scored on a 17-yard run with 7:09 left in the second quarter. 

Aaron Tobias tossed a 14-yard scoring pass to Tyriq Lewis for East Stroudsburg with 3:29 left in the second quarter to cut the lead to 14-7. 

Morgan teamed with junior wide receiver Barry Hill (Highland Springs, Va./Varina/West Virginia State) on a 14-yard scoring strike with 1:28 left in the half to give the Rams a 21-7 advantage at the break. 

Shepherd took a 24-7 lead on a 22-yard field goal by Bozek with 9:29 left in the third quarter. 

Tobias fired a 31-yard scoring strike to Randy Fizer with 4:07 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 24-14. 

Shepherd answered back with a 76-yard interception return for a score by redshirt sophomore Naeem Alexander (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) with 3:39 left in the third quarter to take a 31-14 advantage. 

Devin Bartholomew connected on a 30-yard field goal for the Warriors with 10:52 left in the game. 

Shepherd added a pair of fourth-quarter scores to seal the win. 

Morgan teamed with junior wide receiver Jeremiah Taylor (Upper Marlboro, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School/Fairmont State) on a 21-yard scoring strike with 6:57 left and redshirt-freshman running back Jordan Barnett (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge/Southern Utah) scored on a yard run with 2:01 remaining. 

Shepherd amassed 511 yards of total offense while limiting East Stroudsburg to 207 total yards. 

Tobias connected on 10-of-18 passes for 126 yards.

Brown had 16 carries for 110 yards to lead the Shepherd ground game. Barnett added 17 carries for 105 yards. Lewis rushed 10 times for 40 yards to pace the Warriors. 

Taylor had six catches for 71 yards and Brown added six grabs for 57 yards to lead the Ram receivers. Justin Cook had four catches for 41 yards for East Stroudsburg. 

Junior defensive lineman Jack Baxter (Sykesville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) had six tackles (three solos, one sack) and senior linebacker Dewayne Grantham (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Lackawanna) added five stops (three solos) to lead the Rams. Sergei Felizor posted a game-high 15 tackles (14 solos) for the Warriors. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Mercyhurst at noon for Senior Day/Military Appreciation Day. 

Notes: Malakai Brown ran for over 100 yards for the third time this season … Morgan completed 24 passes or more for the fifth time this season … Barnett posted his second 100-yard rushing effort of the season … former Shepherd head coach Monte Cater was honored at halftime for his selection into the 2023 Class of the College Football of Fame … Cater was also honored as the field at Ram Stadium was named Coach Monte Cater Field.
