EDINBORO, Pa. – Freshman guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) scored a game-high 22 points to lead Shepherd (4-5, 1-3 PSAC) to a 78-61 win over lead Edinboro (2-8, 1-3 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Edinboro on Tuesday afternoon.
Banks connected on 8-of-13 shots with a 6-for-6 performance from the foul line. He also added three rebounds and a pair of assists. Banks' 22 points are a career-high effort.
Senior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) added 16 points, six boards, and three assists. Junior guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) contributed 13 points, a game-high eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Junior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) was also in double figures with 10 points.
JJ Eubank scored 20 points to lead the Fighting Scots. Easton Fulmer added 14 points while Bernie Blunt had 13.
Shepherd had a 38-28 lead at halftime behind 12 first-half points from Banks.
The Rams led by as many as 19 points in the second half but Edinboro rallied late to cut the deficit to nine points at 65-56 after a three-pointer by Eubank with 5:47 left. The Rams closed the game on a 13-5 run to grab the victory.
Shepherd connected on 58.5 percent (31-53) of its field goals with a 50 percent (6-12) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 90.9 percent (10-11) of their free throws.
Edinboro shot 40.4 percent (23-57) from the floor with a 38.2 percent (13-34) effort from beyond the arc. The Fighting Scots hit 100 percent (2-2) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 31-25 advantage in rebounds. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed seven. \
The Rams return to action on Dec. 30 when they host Mercyhurst for a 3 p.m. contest.
