Shepherd Men Fall at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Senior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian scored a game-high 16 points, but Millersville (13-8, 10-5 PSAC) gained a 59-57 win over Shepherd (11-10, 8-7 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Millersville on Wednesday night. 

Preston connected on 6-of-10 field goals with a 4-of-7 effort from three-point range. He added six rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. 

Sophomore guard Aidan Hughley (York, Pa./York Suburban) had 13 points and five boards, while junior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) contributed 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Junior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) was also in double figures with 11 points. 

Justin Nwosu had 13 points and Keith Mency added 12 to lead the Marauders. Matt Dade added nine points and a game-high seven rebounds. 

Millersville had a 33-23 lead at halftime.  

Millersville led by as many as 12 points in the second half. The Rams would rally late to within a point at 58-57 as Preston drained a three-pointer with six seconds left. Keith Mency would hit 1-of-2 free throws with three seconds left to help the Marauders hang on for the win. 

Shepherd connected on 44.2 percent (23-52) of its field goals with a 35 percent (7-20) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 50 percent (4-8) of their free throws. 

Millersville shot 40.8 percent (20-49) from the floor with a 28.6 percent (6-21) effort from beyond the arc. The Marauders hit on 68.4 percent (13-19) of their free throws. 

Millersville had a 33-27 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 10 turnovers and committed eight. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lock Haven for a 3 p.m. contest.
