Shepherd Men Top Mansfield

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore guard Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) scored 17 points and junior guard Jordan Gibson (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson/Presbyterian) added 15 to lead Shepherd (12-11, 9-8 PSAC) to a 79-61 win over Mansfield (5-17, 4-14 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night. 

Poffenberger connected on 6-of-12 field goals with a 1-of-6 effort from beyond the arc. He was 4-of-4 from the foul line. 

Senior guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) added 13 points and tied Mansfield's Scott Woodring with a game-high seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Aidan Hughley (York, Pa./York Suburban) contributed nine points, while freshman forward Stefan Marcelle (Washington, D.C./Georgetown Prep) added eight points and six boards.

Idris Ali led Mansfield with 19 points. Manir Waller added 11 points and five boards.

Shepherd shot 54.4 percent (31-57) from the floor with a 32.1 percent (9-28) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 100 percent (8-8) of their free throws.  

Mansfield shot 34.3 percent (23-67) from the floor with a 34.6 percent (9-26) from three-point range. The Mounties shot 66.7 percent (12-18) from the foul line.  

Shepherd had a 31-28 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced nine turnovers and committed seven. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at 3 p.m.
