HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Shepherd University swept tennis action with Western New England at Hilton Head on Friday. The Shepherd men and women both posted 4-3 victories.
Sophomore Sebastian Sevilla (Ambato, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Atenas), junior Yuto Shimotsuji (Osaka, Japan/Naniwa/Campbellsville), and sophomore Fabian Telschow (Schriesheim, Germany/Kurpfalz-Gymnasium-Schriesheim) recorded singles wins for the men.
Sevilla and junior Hamilton Hall (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) teamed for a 7-6 (7-5) win at number one doubles, while Shimotsuji and Telschow recorded a 6-0 win at number two doubles.
Junior Marketa Beladova (Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic/Iowa Central Community College), freshman Ximena Bolanos Tellez (Mineral de la Reforma, Mexico/Colegio Makarenko), and senior Isabella Mascari (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) all recorded singles victories for the women.
Baladova and Tellez teamed for a 6-2 win at number one doubles. Mooney and Mascara posted a 6-1 win at number two doubles.
The men improve to 3-5 on the year, while the women move to 2-5. The men return to action on March 25 when they travel to Edinboro for a 6:30 p.m. match. The women return to action Tuesday when they host Bowie State at a yet to be determined time.
