Box Score 2 PEMBROKE, N.C. – Shepherd University (7-4) swept Lake Erie College (0-10) in doubleheader baseball action at UNC Pembroke on Sunday. The Rams gained a 15-3 win in game one and added a 10-1 victory in the nightcap. Today's sweep allowed Shepherd to sweep the four-game set with Lake Erie.
Junior outfielder Idris Carter (Uniondale, N.Y./Roosevelt/Stony Brook) went 2-for-3 with five RBI to lead a 15-hit attack for the Rams in game one. He belted a three-run homer in the second inning to give the Rams a 5-2 lead.
After adding a run in the third, the Rams plated eight runs in the fourth to take a commanding 14-2 lead.
Redshirt-sophomore outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC), graduate student infielder/outfielder Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion), senior first baseman Ross Mulhall (Morgantown, W.Va./University/Gardner-Webb), and redshirt-sophomore infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC) each added a pair of hits for the Rams.
Senior pitcher Tanner Dixon (Frederick, Md./Frederick) (4.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 9 K, 3 BB) (2-0) gained the win. Evan Barnes (0.0 IP, 4 H, 6 ER, 0 K, 1 BB) (0-2) took the loss for the Storm.
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the first in the nightcap behind an RBI double from junior infielder Nicco German (Burke, Va./Falls Church) and a sacrifice fly from Daggers.
Lake Erie scored a run in the fourth on an RBI-single by Hagan Hejduk.
Shepherd scored four runs in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead with a three-run homer Dewees keying the rally.
The Rams added four runs in the sixth with a two-run single by graduate student catcher Andrew Edwards (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) highlighting the scoring outburst.
Mulhall and senior infielder Cole Daugherty (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Redshirt-freshman pitcher Nate Mikulski (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K, 2 BB) (1-0) picked up the win for the Rams Dominic Poltrone (4.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 6 K, 4 BB) (0-2) took the loss for Lake Erie.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Virginia State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
